Blue Rocks Is the Deck to Beat in EB05
If you've been anywhere near a table — or a sim lobby — in the last two weeks, you've felt it: Blue Rocks D. Xebec (OP17-039) isn't just "good." It's the gravitational center of the EB05+OP18 format. Other decks bend around it. You either have a plan for Rocks… or you don't make day two.
The CL stamp of approval
Nothing sells a meta call like a clean local run. At Conqueror's League Clash #20 in the Dominican Republic, Mutsuga took Blue Rocks 7-0 through 230 players — and posted the list for the whole circuit to chew on. That's not a vibes win. That's the Americas circuit saying: this is real.
Online, the story rhymes. Rocks keeps showing up at the top of ChinoizeCups and other sim cups (Mexico, Europe, Peru cuts), and early EB05 meta reports already mark it as the only clear S-tier seat hog of week one.
Why it hits so hard
- Blue control that still races — draw, bounce, and tempo tools that refuse to run out of gas
- Leader identity that scales — every DON!! and every late-game Rocks payoff feels unfair
- Flexible shells — lists barely need EB05 cards to dominate, which means the deck was already ahead of the format
- Presence everywhere — paper Clash wins and sim cups both pointing the same direction
What to watch if you're on the other side
Respect the mid-game. Rocks wants you to overcommit into bounce and removal, then punish with a board you can't clear. Sideboard and mulligan plans that specifically hate Blue control matter more than "general goodstuff" right now.
