Miracle RG Luffy Is Here: EB05 Bonney Turned One Deck Into Everyone's Homework

If you were on X this week, you saw it: "Miracle" Red/Green Luffy, the OP13-001 leader rebuilt around EB05's Jewelry Bonney. NoVa (@NoVaPyramis) called the new RG Luffy with Bonney "#1 right now."

The hype, in their words

  • The Egman said he thought people were exaggerating, then went 9-0 over four hours of testing and called it "one of the most broken decks I've ever played," with "Borsalino/Re-quasar vibes" (post). His list is on Egman Deck Builder: 4 Bonney, 4 Kouzuki Hiyori, 4 Kouzuki Oden, 4 Vander Decken IX and 4 Thousand Sunny are the backbone.
  • Raphterra posted an initial matchup tier list with nothing in the unfavored rows and the line: "This deck will dictate the format, every deck will need to tech against it."

Why Bonney? EB05-001 is a 5-cost, 7000-power Character. Under a Supernovas leader, her On Play draws 2 and drops up to two 2000-power-or-less Characters from hand. She also shaves −1000 off a 6000+ leader or Character once per turn. Card advantage plus board plus a debuff, in one slot.

The pushback

Not everyone is sold. Mirco Morscio, who is recording a Xebec guide, says the matchup "feels positive for Xebec" (post), joking that the real miracle is RG Luffy finding its cards. On the other side, Rocks player junjun_yp called it a hard matchup that "felt like a brand new Mihawk match up" (post).

And the results so far are loud but not dominant. In the EB05 ChinoizeCups, RG Luffy put three copies into the #127 Top 8 and had three 5-1 finishes in #128, yet those cups went to BY Teach and Kaido.

Our take (opinion)

RG Luffy is the deck you must prepare for, not a guaranteed trophy. If you're on Rocks, practice the lines. If you're on anything else, ask one question in testing: what does my deck do the turn Bonney hits the table?

Test it where it counts

Conqueror's Clash #22 (EB05 Edition) runs tonight, Thursday Oct 29, and #23 runs Friday, Oct 30. Clash #20 went to Mutsuga with Rocks, 7-0 in a 230-player field (post). Can Miracle Luffy dethrone Rocks?
